Town Meetings
Many legislators hold special meetings in public places like libraries, county fairs, or at pancake breakfasts. These events are one way legislators get to know local citizens and hear their concerns.
One type of event is a legislator’s town meeting. These meetings are generally quite informal and very small, so they are great places to get to know your lawmaker. Your local newspaper should list when and where your legislator is hosting a town meeting. To make it even easier, call your lawmaker’s office, and asked to be placed on the town meeting information or invitation list. This way you will know exactly when and where your lawmaker will be when back in your district.
When attending a public forum town meeting, be prepared to ask a simple and concise question. Ask family members or friends to join you!
